BIO
My musical journey started at an early age. At just four years old, I had my first solo performance in a small country church near our farm in northern Illinois. My dad accompanied me on the piano, and it was a moment that set me on the path to a career in music. By the time I was six, I was inspired by a family friend, Art Pillar, who played guitar and sang. I begged my parents for a guitar, and they ordered one for me from the “Monkey Wards” catalogue for my sixth birthday. It was too big for me at first, but after a few adjustments, I started learning and soon began entertaining at local Farm Bureau meetings. Over the years, my musical talents expanded to include piano and songwriting.
In the mid-1970s, my music career took me from Waco, Texas, to Houston, where I started performing solo gigs around the city. In 1978, I signed with American Records of Houston and released my debut album, It’s Taken Such a Long Time, featuring seven original tracks. Soon after, I formed my band, Rancho Bebop, and we gained popularity, playing all over Texas. As a solo artist, I continued to perform around the Houston/Galveston area, even landing a gig at the historic Balinese Room in 1986. During this time, my personal life also flourished. I met Susan, married her, and we started a family. In the '90s, I shifted my focus to video production for a while, but I kept performing occasionally when I could.
After retiring from video production in 2017, I decided to rekindle my music career. With the help of Nashville producer Joe Beck, I co-produced an album of original songs, which was released in 2018. This project marked my return to music, and since then, I’ve been writing new material. The years that followed brought personal challenges, including multiple surgeries and the joy of becoming a grandfather, but my passion for music has never wavered. I’m currently working on a new album, set for release in 2025, which features a mix of influences and new collaborations with Nashville talent.
